Work with your original files.
Add a Dropbox file to a memory and keep working with the original. #memory opens it from your connected Dropbox account.
Start with File. Choose where it comes from.
On iPhone or iPad, tap the attachment button, then File. You’ll see two options:
- iCloud — import a copy. Opens the iOS Files picker, where you can choose from iCloud Drive, On My iPhone, and other available locations. #memory saves an independent copy of the file you choose.
- Dropbox — link to your original. Opens your connected Dropbox account. Choose a file there to attach a link to that exact file.
A file chosen through the iCloud / Files picker is always imported as a copy, even if you browse to Dropbox there. Files sent to #memory through the iOS share sheet are also copied.
Connect once. Choose your files.
- Open a memory and tap Attachment → File → Dropbox. If Dropbox isn’t connected, tap Connect Dropbox and approve the connection on Dropbox’s authorization screen.
- Browse your folders and select files. The picker shows the files and folders available to your connected Dropbox account.
- Tap Link Files. #memory adds links to the selected files. You can open them from the memory later.
Keep the file in the place you already work.
Edit your original file in Dropbox or an app that saves changes back to Dropbox. Linking it does not turn #memory into a document editor.
When you open a linked file, #memory checks Dropbox for the current version. The link identifies the file itself, so moving or renaming that same file in Dropbox does not create a new attachment.
A few things to know.
What happens in a memory that is already shared?
The current app adds a copy instead of a link and shows a message. That copy is separate from your original Dropbox file.
Can I open a linked file offline?
Opening the current version needs a connection. If a previous version is cached on your device, #memory may show that saved version instead. Linking alone does not guarantee an offline copy.
Does linking give other people access to Dropbox?
Adding a file does not automatically grant other people access to your Dropbox account. Sharing a memory and granting access to its linked files are separate choices.
How do I manage the connection?
You can disconnect Dropbox in Settings. Live access to linked files may stop after disconnecting, revoking authorization, or losing access to the original file. Dropbox shows the permissions you authorize when you connect.
